Pre-Surgery Instructions

Before Surgery


DON’TS

  • If you are to receive intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, DO NOT eat or drink ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT prior to your surgery unless advised by your surgeon. This includes water, gum, breath mints, etc.
  • DO NOT wear make-up or earrings. Keep other jewelry to a minimum.
  • DO NOT wear contact lenses.
  • If you are a smoker – NO SMOKING before surgery.

DOs

  • Inform the surgeon if you are taking any special medication on a regular basis.
  • Please follow instructions from your surgeon regarding any medications to be taken prior to surgery.
  • Contact our office prior to surgery if you have ANY CHANGE in your health status: i.e. cold, chest congestion, flu, etc.
  • Brush your teeth prior to surgery. Rinse well but do not swallow any water.
  • If you have long hair, please pull it back.
  • Do come with a responsible adult who can drive you home. We require that your escort remain in the waiting room during surgery. After surgery, the escort will be brought back to the recovery area to sit with you and receive post-operative instructions.
  • Do try to be as rested and relaxed as possible.
  • Do inform us if you cannot keep your appointment. Please give our office 48 hours notice for any cancellation.
